When is Saturday ‘Glorious’ and Sunday ‘Beautiful’?

When you are using the Bahá’í calendar of course! The Bahá’í week starts on a Saturday and ends on Friday, and each day is named after one of the ‘attributes’ of God. So Saturday is ‘Glory’ (or in Arabic Jalál ) and Sunday is ‘Beauty’ (or in Arabic Jamál). The rest of the days of the week are-

Monday -’Perfection’ (Kamál)

Tuesday- ‘Grace’ (Fidál)

Wednesday- ‘Justice’ (’Idál)

Thursday -’Majesty’ (Istijlál)

Friday ‘Independence’- (Istiqlál )

The concept of the ‘attributes of God’ is a profound one. To my understanding they can be seen as those spiritual qualities, for example Mercy, Love, or Generosity, through which we have limited human understanding of God. Though of course we cannot understand the essence of God, because in the words of Bahá’u’lláh-

‘O CHILDREN OF THE DIVINE AND INVISIBLE ESSENCE! Ye shall be hindered from loving Me and souls shall be perturbed as they make mention of Me. For minds cannot grasp Me nor hearts contain Me’.
