I am saddened to learn that pressure may have been brought upon a Baha’i in Iran to deny his faith.
According to a report from the Baha’i Committee of Human Rights Activists in Iran, the condition of two Baha’is in Mashhad named [Mrs.] Sonia Ahmadi and Mr. Ghanvatiyan, who were arrested on the 11th of Aban [2 Nov. 2009] by the Office of Intelligence of Mashhad, is unknown, and is a cause of great concern to their families. According to reports from close friends to the families of the individuals mentioned above, since Mr. Ghanvatiyan was a Muslim prior to becoming a Baha’i, [it is being speculated that] he may have been pressured to return to Islam; it is also possible that Sonia Ahmadi may be claimed to be the person who converted him to the Baha’i faith. It is important to note that all of Mr. Ghanvatiyan’s family is Muslim; he joined the Baha’i community more than 30 years ago before the Islamic Revolution [of Iran in 1979]. Editor’s Notes:
